Praying for your baby

One of the most important things we can do as mothers is pray for our children. They don't have to be born in order for us to cover them in prayer. One of my favorite things during my pregnancy was laying my hands on my belly and praying for my Little Sprout.

Every day I would pray for the baby. I would invite the Holy Spirit to minister to our baby and would pray for the particular weeks development. I would also pray that our baby would come to know the Lord at an early age, and pray for things that I wanted God to do in the baby's life.  Most often I prayed for god to grow, and bless the baby. I would pray the Armor of God over the baby and the Aaronic Blessing found in Numbers 6:24-26:

“The Lord bless you
    and keep you;
the Lord make his face shine on you
    and be gracious to you;
the Lord turn his face toward you
    and give you peace. ”

If you don't know where to get started, or are nervous about praying for your baby, there are tons of great books on praying for your unborn baby. There are tons of devotionals too that you can do as a couple. I encourage you to take this time not just to grow a baby, but also your faith. Reading together as a couple is a great way to encourage spiritual growth and build a strong foundation for your family. This is a great resource from Crosswalk on praying for your children.

This week's action: Begin praying and reading the Word over your baby. Not only will the baby be blessed, but the baby will learn your voice. Get started by checking out this post from Circle of Moms.

Dig Deeper: Find a great couples devotional.  Two of my favorites are Expectant Moments and Night Light. Night Light, is not specifically pregnancy related, but it is a fantastic devotional for couples and I cannot recommend it enough. They also have a devotional for parents, but I haven't read it yet.

Blessings!

Joy
